Fortune Roulette: My opinion on this casino game

They say you can’t reinvent the wheel, but the guys at Pragmatic Play certainly did a good job of reinventing the classic roulette wheel!

Fortune Roulette is a fantastic reimagining of what is a staple in land and online casinos the world over.

So, with that said, let’s unpack this game together.

Presentation of the game Fortune Roulette

Based on the European variation, the roulette wheel itself remains unchanged with 37 compartments numbered from 0 to 36.

Personally, I much prefer this version compared to the American one as the House Edge is more favorable towards us, the players.

Now, Fortune Roulette introduces random multipliers that can massively increase your potential earnings, with the single highest multiplier reaching up to x540 your original bet.

Pragmatic Play Fortune Roulette

It must be said that adding multipliers to online roulette games is nothing new and something we’ve grown accustomed to.

However, Fortune Roulette does this in a fresh and exciting way, using virtual briefcases in a scene that is reminiscent of the timeless Deal or no Deal Live by Evolution Gaming.

Aside from this, there are two additional characteristics that in my opinion place Fortune Roulette head and shoulders above the rest.

This includes a slot-styled Bonus Game and a Chest feature that accumulates any active multipliers into one large sum of money!

With an RTP of 97.3%, the expected return over time is no different to classic variations of the game.

But, when considering the potential multipliers you can grab, I’d say Fortune Roulette strikes a great balance between excitement and value

How does Fortune Roulette work?

So far, I’ve briefly brushed over the core elements of Fortune Roulette but now it’s time I go into more detail about the rules and its features.

The basic rules

This isn’t the first time Pragmatic Play has introduced multipliers in their roulette games.

Their two previous releases – Mega Roulette and Power Up Roulette – also feature them. However, in those versions, only Straight Up bets qualify for boosted payouts.

Fortune Roulette takes things a step further by making all inside bets eligible for multipliers, which range from x50 up to x540 your original wager.

This not only gives more flexibility in your betting strategy, but it also increases your odds of getting enhanced payouts.

Fortune Multiplier Winning Number

Occasionally, the chest feature activates, revealing a number from the roulette wheel. If it matches your bet, all active multipliers combine for one massive payout that can reach up to x3,240 on a Straight Up.

Finally, there’s also another case reserved for the Bonus Game. Once triggered, the stage is transported to a new set featuring a giant 5×3 slot machine

With up to three levels, the Bonus Game gives you a chance of stacking multipliers over multiple spins, potentially reaching a maximum payout of up to x9,000, the highest in the game.

Here’s a quick rundown of all the main multipliers;

Category Bet Type Multiplier
Lowest Fortune Multiplier Any inside bet x50
Highest Fortune Multiplier Any inside bet x540
Chest accumulator Straight Up bets only Up to 3,240x
Chest accumulator  Any inside bet
(except Straight Up bets)
Up to 1,620x
Bonus GameAny inside bet Up to x9,000

Types of bets available

Roulette bets can be categorized into three main groups: inside, outside and call bets. Each of them can be divided further as I’ll explain below.

For starters, inside bets refer to wagers placed on the numbered section of the grid. These include Straight Up bets where you place a bet on any single number.

The rest include Split, Street, Corner or Six Line bets. These can all be lumped together as split bets as they involve betting on multiple numbers.

Outside bets are any bets that are placed outside the normal numbered grid. These fall under much broader outcomes such as whether the color the ball will land on will be black or red, whether it will be even or odd, etc.

Finally, call bets, also known as announced bets. These include some of my favorite bets to make as they cover very particular sections of the wheel rather than a grid on the table.

For greater insight, refer to the table below:

Inside BetsDefinitionOutside BetsDefinition
Straight Up Any single Number Red/Black Any black or red number
Split Two numbers side-by-side High/Low Low = 1 – 18 High = 19 – 36
Street Four numbers forming a line Odd/Even Any odd or even number
Corner (Square) Four numbers forming a block Dozens Three groups of 12 numbers each
Six Line Six numbers forming two rows Columns Three columns (1-12, 13-24, 25-36)

Below you can find the different types of call bets and their definition;

  • Tiered: Covers 12 numbers with six chips (bets)
  • Voisins: Covers 17 numbers with nine chips (bets)
  • Orphan: Covers numbers not mentioned in Voisins/Tiered bets
  • O Game: Covers numbers closest to 0 on roulette wheel

What are the differences between classic roulette and Fortune Roulette?

One of the less glaringly obvious differences between the two versions is that, in Fortune Roulette, the payouts for inside bets are not as high as they are in classic variations.

However, this is completely fine by me as the potential to receive massive winnings more than makes up for it.

Bet Types Payouts (Fortune Roulette) Payouts (Classic Roulette)
Straight Up 23 – 8999:1 35:1
Split 11 – 4499:1 17:1
Street 7 – 2999:1 11:1
Corner (Square) 5 – 2249:1 8:1
Six Line 3 – 1499:1 5:1
Column/Dozen 2:1 2:1
Red/Black 1:1 1:1
Even/Odd 1:1 1:1
High/Low 1:1 1:1

Aside from this, the fundamentals of Fortune Roulette remain the same.

Yes, the croupiers are replaced by hosts who interact with the players more but, ultimately, they perform the same function.

They spin the wheel counterclockwise before placing the ball on the bowl’s backtrack as it spins in the opposite direction. Plus, you can still make all the inside or outside bets you want, including call bets.

But, it’s the addition of all these features in Fortune Roulette that completely changes the dynamic, making it feel like a whole different ball game (pun intended).

It’s a bit like comparing Chess to Checkers, the components are all the same, but their functions differ entirely.

My final opinion on Fortune Roulette

My short answer is that I loved it! It’s great fun and there’s a lot to like, not least the immersive game-show format.

Of course, the Fortune Multipliers are the heart and soul of the game, but when you add the chest accumulator and bonus rounds, it adds a whole new dynamic that keeps us entertained

My favorite part though is that all inside bets qualify for the multipliers and other features. It immediately makes the game more accessible to beginners by reducing risk and adding flexibility to your betting strategy

Granted, the payouts are not as high as they are in classic variations but who cares when the possible returns from the multipliers are so tantalizing

My only real gripe is that players cannot track short-term performance stats on inside bets.

But overall, if you’re looking for a different take on the roulette experience, one that packs a punch, then Fortune Roulette is a must-try.

Trust me, after playing this, normal roulette just won’t cut it for you anymore.
